Duty and the Overall Metagame

Jedha will operate its metagame under a modified form of Duty from Age of Rebellion. In this context Duty serves as a measure of collaboration with an outside organization, but will function differently in order to prevent some of the common complaints, namely that being stuck with a group of players who drop out acts a millstone.

Duty serves as the metagame currency for this campaign, measuring the contributions my players into the restoration of the planet as a whole, with the most active and effective factions to the rebuilding process take a greater role in the shape of what the future of Jedha looks like.

Factions

Factions represent general blocs on the planet who see differing visions as to its future. At character creation, 5 Duty is automaticaly assigned to the faction that corresponds to the chosen career. A planet filled with fringers and mercenaries will drift in a direction that reflects their presence despite whatever directions they might see, as would organized diplomats and trained soliders, or those connected to the Force. However, players will be offered the chance on Day 1 to join an event that allows them to link with a second faction and gain duty that is allocated to said faction. Players will earn Duty through events and other actions that aid the development of the planet, and after this initial sign up period will be allowed to invest (or not invest) their Duty as they see fit.

Edgerunners see the unincorporated status of Jedha and the system as a whole as an asset to slip through the cracks. The ambiguity of Jedha's status is an asset, and Edgerunners see themselves as those who do not fit in the resestablished Republic whether due to a criminal record, or previous ties the Empire, or simply remembering the dysfunction of the Senate in the twilight of the High Republic. They correspond to careers from Edge of the Empire.

Settlers want to expand upon the organization of the planet, giving it more defined and established place in the galaxy. Exactly what that place is remains a matter for debate, whether it be a new iteration of the Corporate Sector, or an official part of the Republic, allied with the Imperial Remnant or some recognized autonomous state. They correspond to careers from Age of Rebellion

The Seekers are those who prioritize the connection to Jedha to the Force. Already a vergence the damage via the Death Star has changed the environment to something new, and is seem as a viable place to establish a new tradition among those who consider themselves Force Practicioners of various stripes.

When a faction's Duty collective Duty score reaches 100 it is automatically traded for a rank of Contribution.

Players are encouraged to carve out their place or steer one of these prexisting factions to their direction rather than creating one of their own, as they will likely be washed out otherwise, but player factions may be created by pooling enough uninvested Duty to earn a rank of Contribution.

At the end of game, the overall wellbeing of Jedha will be assessed by the combined Contribution scores, with the faction(s) with greatest influence directing its path going forward: Edgerunners and Colonists working together may generate a special autonomous zone. Seekers and Colonists might codify the planet as an alternative to Luke Skywalker's burgeoning Jedi Academy.
